I will be giong to jaisalmer this november for a second time. This time with my three girls and my parents.
We went there in 2006 and stayed at the shahi palace and killa bhawan.
Alan.J if you read this post: we did the camel safari with setan and loved it. I loved the village and the kids there. Setan wanted me to say hello to you. They all remembered you very fondly. Thank you for reccommending this place.
I cannot wait for my kids to experience everything we did.
thank you

Ubud, that post has just made my day. Frankly, I%26#39;ve been having a lousy day, trying to deal with a person who refuses to acknowledge that she%26#39;s dealing with a human being, and not just a machine you suck money out of, and I confess I opened Tripadvisor today as a way of escaping. And suddenly I%26#39;m not in Australia any more, I%26#39;m back in Jaisalmer with Setan at Shahi Palace, and this greedy woman is thousnads of miles away.
I haven%26#39;t been to Jaisalmer since 2004, but, like you, we started planning a return visit -- this time with our kids, whom we ';prudently'; (but maybe not so wisely)left behind last time -- almost as soon as we were on the train, and I%26#39;m delighted to say that 2008 is the time. Actually, we get there before you (first week in September)... but you have the last laugh, as the weather in November is fantastic... occasionally it gets below the century.
I am delighted you enjoyed ';my'; village and ';my'; children; while they won%26#39;t remember me, I hope that a couple of the things (books, games) we sent them are still in that tiny school. The month after we returned, I asked Tripadvisor readers to send the school postcards from their home town so that the kids would have something to decorate the walls with. Foolishly, I asked everyone to address the cards to Setan at Shahi Palace. Well, you can guess what happened (or maybe you can%26#39;t -- it could only happen in India): people (maybe you were one of them)sent not only postcards -- HUNDREDS of them -- but books and gifts, until Setan actually got summoned to the police station in Jodhpur and ';grilled'; about all this strange stuff suddenly arriving for him from all over the world (even Finland and Nova Scotia!). Thankfully, they eventually let him go, so he can continue to take people like yourselves on his camel safaris. But THAT, I fear -- and not my engaging personality or dazzling good looks -- is why Setan remembers me from 2004. I%26#39;m the one that almost got him a life sentence in a Jodhpur prison!
I can%26#39;t wait for my kids to see Jaisalmer, either; it%26#39;s the kind of place that, if you tried to describe it to people, they wouldn%26#39;t believe you.. they%26#39;d think you were talking about a 1940s epic movie set.
When we get there in September we will mention you and your kind post, which, I think, I will send to Setan and the brothers (Dev, Bapu) at Shahi Palace.... our favourite hotel in our favourite city in India.
Thanks again!

Hi Alan,
Setan did tell me how he was questioned for reciving all this stuff. It seems that some of the books sent had maps that were not were not accurate as to where the Indian border was or something like that.
But I think Setan and the kids remember you for your generous nature. (By the way did I mention how sweet they were. we played criket and they gave me tours of their homes and showed off their baby camels!!)
I have read a lot of your posts on india and Thailand, and love the positive and helpful tone in all of them.
The world could use more travellers like you.
Have a wonderful time with your kids and keep us updated.
Thanks for all that info, Ubud! Nice to know that Setan%26#39;s only crime was having a map of India with the boundaries not certified!
Sounds like the kids are due for another cricket set!
All the best,
Alan
