Malarone anyone...??

Hi guys,

I have decided to dig deep in my pockets and opt for the pricey Malarone anti-malerials.

Does anyone know where I can purchase these from and the price? My local chemists and Boots do not stock them.

Any advice appreciated :-)

Malarone anyone...??

You can buy them on-line with Travelpharm at £2.20 per tablet but you will need to send in a prescription before they will despatch them to you - they also include free delivery in the price. I got my anti-malarials from them (not Malarone though) and they were very efficient - arrived in two days.

Alternatively, I think that the major supermarket pharmacies sell them, well Asda and Morrisons at any rate but I%26#39;m not sure how much for exactly.

Malarone anyone...??

Hi

I Tesco or Boots pharmacy to be cheapest. Cost about £35 to cover a two week holiday,

I think with boots pharmacy you order them online and they%26#39;re sent to your local store.

Hope this helps

Thanks jofisher 2206, have just checked on Boots online and they work out around £50 to cover a 2 week holiday (24 tabs). Can%26#39;t find anywhere that des them for £35...

Some posts on the site say that Malarone isn%26#39;t required for India. Would it do any harm to take these anyway instead of P %26amp; C as they have less side effects?

Obviously i don%26#39;t want to order Malarone if they aren%26#39;t the right ones to take. There seems to be conflicting info on here...

Help! :-)

I had to order mine from the local chemist, but no problem, only took a day or two.

It is a matter of personal choice but I wanted something reliable for the kids, the big advantage with malarone is that you don%26#39;t have to take it until day before travel.

No side effects, been back a month now and no signs of malaria, so I guess it was worth the price!

Malarone is recommended for India, as is P %26amp; C. It all boils down to the following criteria.

1. You would need to take P %26amp; C for 1 week before you leave, the duration of your visit and 4 weeks after your return. With Malarone you are required to take them for at least a couple of days before you leave, the duration of your visit and 1 week after your return.

2. Some people will come on here and tell you that they have experienced side effects with P %26amp; C, but equally there will be many who will say that they were fine and recommend that you take the tablets at the same time every day and with food. Generally, people who have taken Malarone have reported fewer side effects but this is a bone of contention really and there have been any number of threads in the past on the subject.

3. Cost - P %26amp; C varies in price dependent upon where you get them, I was quoted £16.00 per complete course at Sainsburys but ended up getting them online £12.60. Malarone varies too but can cost upto about £2.60 per tablet.

Ultimately, it%26#39;s a personal decision based upon convenience, your view point regarding potential side effects and of course the impact upon your pocket.

Forgot to say, if you%26#39;re still not sure what to do, it may be worthwhile having a chat with either your GP or the nurse at your surgery%26#39;s travel clinic - afterall they are the health professionals.

We%26#39;re going for Malarone too as we took them last year on our trip to Kenya and they suited us just fine.

Going to order online from Travelpharm too - good price and you get Airmiles with that company as well! www.airmiles.co.uk

For Kenya we purchased online from Stratford Pharmacy http://www.stratford-pharmacy.co.uk/ - also very competitive.

:-)
