Motor bikes/scooters in Calangute

Have been to Goa 10 years ago and traffic was not too bad.Is it still practical to hire a bike safely and is an International licence required.

Also what is the price of a tuk tuk now per kilo roughly?

Hi...

Traffic is busy, although if you%26#39;re a good driver then you shouldn%26#39;t have much of a problem, there are a host of %26#39;Indian rules%26#39; that you need to be aware of, so best look at the driving before commiting to it. I know lots of people who ride it quite safely but it%26#39;s not for the faint hearted and yes an internation licence is required. Probably the worst places to drive are calangute/baga and candolim as there are lots of younger tourists zooming around on them who haven%26#39;t quite got the skill but think they have. Then there%26#39;s the pottering old timers who are the other end of the scale who try to be too careful but then aren%26#39;t.... The main thing to know is that beeping is to let people know you%26#39;re there (not to tell them off), flashing your lights at someone DOESN%26#39;T mean you%26#39;re letting them through, it means THEY are coming through... Then the normal, don%26#39;t give way unless you have to etc... It%26#39;s all good fun!

One thing to note is that the bike you hire should have a black plate with yellow No%26#39;s otherwise you will be stopped by the police.....in fact they%26#39;ll probably stop you anyway!!! Always carry bike papers and international licence, oh and helmets are law on the highways.

Be careful and have fun!!

GFF xx

Anyone know of the hire cost this year? I know last year Calangute and Candolim had a bit of a racket going whereby everyone charged the same price. I got one from Arpora in the end at half the cost. Yellow plates are a must this year especially. Mind you, even with all the proper documentation, they still find something to have you on.

Thanks a lot for info folks.Maybe i%26#39;ll stick to taxis and tuk uks

Martin.
