Jake The Snake

A word of warning!!! We went to go on a croc. trip with Jake The Snake. As we drove up we saw around 20 plus taxis in the car park, we then got a ferry across the river to find a boat with at least 50 people on it which looked like if a croc. was spotted and everyone went to one side to take that special photo the croc would have a great lunch!!! We decided there was no way we were getting on that boat. Freya was really upset, so on the way to seeing the spooky man (St Francis) we made a couple of phone calls and arranged another croc. trip for the afternoon. What a difference there was only 15 seats on the boat and we set off with just 4 of us on board. We saw a few crocs. including a 12/15 foot one really close (got loads of video footage plus photos) sunning itself on the riverbank, ospreys, egrets, 6 different types of kingfisher, orioles, redshanks, greenshanks and much more. Not only that but around 4pm we saw Jake the Snakes boat still looking for its first croc.(though I was impressed it was still afloat). In summary we managed to see Old Goa followed by a relaxing lunch on the banks of the Zuari river then a terrific river cruise without becoming lunch for tic-toc!!!! For further details contact Mr. Kamat, Crocodile Station, Ferry Wharf, Cartalim e mail crocstation@vsnl.net. phone no. 2550334 mobile 9822127936.

p.s. The other good thing was that Kamat really knew his stuff and because it was a small boat could point everything out to you and answer any questions.

Should also add that taxi drivers are on 350 rupees per person commission to take you to Jake the Snake!!!

Jake The Snake

There is a lot of that taxi driver kick-back going on. Dudsager falls is rps 500 per car so make sure you mention it when negotiating the price with your taxi driver.

Bump for Popps

whats all this bump for popps???

We went on the croc trip with Jake the Snake on Christmas eve and had a great time. The bloke knows his bird species and was very friendly and helpful(which I suppose he would be taking 1000 rupees apiece)

I can%26#39;t really feel bad about my driver raking off 350 rupees each when the poor sod is only paid 2,000 basic a month...after all it%26#39;s peanuts to us and it%26#39;s nice to know he%26#39;s made his commision.

The bumps for popps are because I am being lazy and are in reply to Things to do in Cavelossim a couple of posts down

Goa bound we maybe just hit it on a bad day but on the day we did Kamat was definitely the better option

Should also add that if we had got on the first boat our daughter Freya (7) really wouldn%26#39;t have seen half the things that she ended up seeing and Goa is a long way to go and not have the best trip available.

p.s. Kamat also gives the taxi drivers 250 commission (although we went with a friend so weren%26#39;t charged) but the point I was trying to make is that taxi drivers don%26#39;t always take you to the best place but to where they get the highest commission

p.s. The taxi driver who said he is on 2000 rupees a month must be related to the sellar who said this is my cost price!!!

Hahaha...nice one Jock!!!...you mean they might not always tell the truth??? By Shiva....who%26#39;d a thought it - lol.

Ne%26#39;mind mate....as long as we all have fun eh??
