Am i doing the right thing

Was going to book our first holiday to Goa i November, the 7th to 21st. We are a married couple aged 49 and 44. Not sure if Goa is going to be a suitable place now after reading all this bad publicity. As this will be our third holiday this year we were looking for a cheap holiday and am worried about the reports of increases in prices and people being ripped off. If we do go should we go AI oR B%26amp;B. How much is the average that a couple would spend in a fortnight for sight-seeing, eating out and drink etc.

Am i doing the right thing

couple of tips,go b%26amp;b eat so cheap. The candolim fort aguada end is more peaceful, get taxi driver you trust and stick to him.any more advice just ask

Am i doing the right thing

Goa is still a cheap destination. After hotel expenses most people spend about £600, for meals, drinks, trips etc.

Best to allow a little more, you can always bring it back.

Go B%26amp;B, then you can fully explore the shacks and restaurants, eating what you want where you want, and when you want.

Don%26#39;t think a pool is necessary, the beach is the place to be. The South is the quieter area of Goa, and the beaches less crowded: and in my view better than the North.

A decent hotel should cost you around £25 per/night for a double with A/C and breakfast.

I would agree with suggestion of £600 but we always take more just in case. B%26amp;B is definitely better than A.I. Its not cost effective to go A.I. in Goa as it would be for example in the Caribbean. There are so many restaurants to choose from.

I prefer the South, its more laid back but still plenty to see and do but thats just my opinion.

As for getting ripped off, well it can happen especially if you are first timers, you just have to be careful and haggle when buying things and agreeing taxi prices. You will soon get the hang of it.

I can understand people who have not been to Goa before being worried about the negative reports and the crime. Things do happen obviously but thousands of tourists go to Goa every year and never have any problems. Just exercise caution as would anywhere in the world.

i %26#39;ve not been ripped off yet, and i%26#39;ve been there 7 times. is there something wrong with me? why should i be different than everyone else? i want what everyone else is getting or i won%26#39;t go again!!!

there is a serious message there!

not quite sure what you mean though about bad publicity, are you refering to the 15 year olds murder? if so, then i have to say this sort of thing is few and far between in goa. unlike our own green and pleasent land we call home!!

we always go b%26amp;b because it is so cheap to eat out, and you can have the choice of so many places.

Bad things happen in every holiday destination. My experience of 8 visits to Goa has been extremely positive, the good points outweigh the bad by a mile! We feel welcome in Goa, compared to some European destinations where we appear to be just tolerated!

Not sure how cheap a holiday you%26#39;re looking for, but early November appears to be very popular as it%26#39;s the start of the charter flights.

Definitely go B%26amp;B - the food is so fantastic and varied, you%26#39;ll regret it if you do AI. You can live very well on £30-£40 per day for two, plus trips which if you do by taxi won%26#39;t break the bank. There are lots of great things to buy in Goa, so you should allow for that.

North or South - hmmm I%26#39;m not sure about that myself as I like both. North has more of a buzz, is far busier, but there%26#39;s something about it.... South is more laid back, quieter, less hustle and bustle.

I am sure you won%26#39;t regret it if you decide to go, you%26#39;ll become addicted like the rest of us.

Hi keith we were in candolim in 2005 due to circumstance beyond our control have not been since but we are going back next year possibly the same time as you but hopefully for 3 weeks (if we can get a good deal)the publicity good or bad has not put us off.like any where in the world you have got to be careful and have your witts about you.as for the young girl being murdered my daughter moved house 6 weeks ago and there was a murder at the other end of the village she moved to so unfortunatley it is happening all over.you will love goa and the goan people and will go more than once.Barbara

The recent sad incident could have taken place anywhere in the circumstances. People who do drugs and stuff like that, at odd hours of the night, ought to be aware of the consequences.

For the average tourist who is not into the drugs scene, Goa is a perfectly safe and friendly place, certainly safer and friendlier than most other beach tourism destinations. Normal precautions must be observed anywhere to avoid unpleasant incidents.

Hello Scottishsunlover, forget all the bad publicity about Goa at the moment because as many people have said this is unfortunately something that happens all around the world. We are Goa old timers (hubbbie is 70 this year and I will be slightly over 50 but not telling!!) Have been visiting Goa since 1994 sometimes twice a year. Yes prices have gone up but it is still exceptionally cheap compared to other holiday destinations. The Goan people could not be more friendly or helpful. The food is incredible. The climate is fantastic. The culture is amazing. So much to see and do. Definitely go b%26amp;b. We love the north because that is where we have always stayed but the south is quieter and has wonderful beaches. As to how much you would spend, that would depend on how many trips you do, shopping etc. and eating and drinking but everything is very cheap.

Is that £600 each or for two and for how long?

Silly me, should read the postings better first!
