hey smiley..we got rupees lol noorie came round today and gave me the ones he had left from wen he came back so least i can get a pkt of fags wen i get there!!!!!!

rupees!

Don%26#39;t get caught bringing them in as it is a closed currency and therefore illegal to take them in or out.

steve

rupees!

It happens all the time Steve, they are not that strict as long as it%26#39;s not silly amounts. British Indians visiting family do it as well as regulars to Goa.

Personally I think they are more likely to take any excess duty free fags off you than the rupees.

Hi Steve, glad you enjoyed your holiday.Interesting what you said about humidity. On other posts about currency and exchange rates, people are talking about being able to get Rupees from Tesco Beurau De Change in 3 days, so that makes me think it%26#39;s maybe not illegal???.

Rupees are a closed currency, and it IS illegal to trade in them outside of India. Legally, customs can confiscate any INR you have on you going out or coming in.

But as said above, its not strictly enforced as long as its not in major amounts. Returning Indians are allowed to bring in currency and other items, subject to the provisions here -

(See Item# 6.)

If you buy INR outside of India, the dealers will or should add a standard disclaimer. It is available though, and if you buy any do not advertise it.
