Airport closure

Take a car from Delhi to Dehra Dun. The road is nice, and it will be about a 5 hour journey if I remember right. There are places where you can stop for lunch on the way.

Hi Indianbackpacker

Jolly Grant airport status:

Going by AC deluxe bus of a private operator will be nice idea (avoid govt busses)...

even better if u take a night train...go sleeping and save 6-8 hrs of travel time...

Cab isn%26#39;t gud idea as the entire stretch is either too crowded or broken coz its being widened...

For indian railways time table, booking, online reservation (I think now-a-days you can avail online reservation facility from even outside India) etc., try these links: http://irctc.co.in/

Train journeys in India is not so horrible as in past days, thanks to Lalooji. Particularly in Delhi-Dehradun sector, trains like Shatabdi(2017), Jan-shatabdi (2055)-(non-ac) or Garib Rath (2205 from Nizamuddin)and Mussauri Exp. are good trains to travel with. All trains stop at Haridwar from where you can hire a taxi outside Rly Stn to Rishikesh (just 24 kM).
