Recent Osborne Reviews

We chose the Osborne as the reviews on here were so good for a 2.5 star hotel, but I have to admit the that the most recent reviews are a little worrying.

Room boys playing with your possessions %26amp; using your mobile phone when you are out of your room, food poisoning, receptionists being rude and lying.

Have we made a mistake booking to stay here?

Recent Osborne Reviews

I stayed there in January for the second time and experienced or heard of none of these things. Most certainly the receptionist staff were not rude at all, the room boys didnt touch anything, if we left things about they didnt clean those places so we had to make sure we put everything away to get the room cleaned. I am not saying by that they didnt clean the room properly, they did a great job, they just didnt want to move anything, certainly didnt use my phone. We only ate there once but I didnt hear of anyone being ill. I like the Osborne, its an average 2 star or whatever hotel, as good as any other, the rooms are spacious, clean and cool and its in a great centralized position but at the same time off the road and pretty quiet. Been there twice and would definately chose it again.

Stepsahead I put a review on the Osborne you might want to have a look at.

Goangrasshopper.

Saffidog .... hope you have a great holiday %26amp; look forward to hearing all the gossip on your return.

I read your report Goangrasshopper .... very detailed %26amp; informative. It%26#39;s the other reports I was concerned about. There have been a constant flow of good reviews of the Osborne which gave it a 4.5 star rating on Trip Advisor .... but recent negative reviews have dropped it down to 3.5 star.

I suppose I%26#39;m getting worked up over nothing .... the majority of reviews are excellent.

No way is it a 4 star. What is good is that it,s back off the main road so it,s lovely and quiet night times. Maybe a few laughs heard from the outdoor bar if your room is overlooking the swimming pool. Even the occassional live music isn,t blasting your earlugs off. I think for what it,s costing you to stay there it,s top value for money. your going to be out allday everyday so really it,s not as if your stuck in it 24/7. We never experienced any problems with the room boys and we left stuff lying around. Laundry services are excellent aswell. I had just about all my stuff washed and pressed before I came home so had very little washing to do. The reception staff were always polite there wasn.t enough they could do for you. Even the gate guards were helpful. Got gack to hotel 5am one morning totally wrecked and they went to the kitchens and got us some coffeeand made sure we got to our room ok. when they saw us later they were asking us if we needed anything for our hang-over. If you use the bar try and keep away from the lovely plants though they,re an haven for the mozzies. All in all it was a lovely place to stay. That,s why we,re going back there next year (2009) You haven,t made a mistake staying here you,ll like it. Travel Safe and look forward to reading your report when you get back.

Goangrasshopper.

Sorry Goangrasshoper, I didn%26#39;t explain that properly. I was refering to the trip advisor travelers rating, not the actual hotel star rating. It used to be 4.5 but now it%26#39;s dropped down.

I suppose the 2 previous %26#39;room boy%26#39; incidents %26amp; the food poisoning are one offs and to be honest, that can happen anywhere around the world.

Really looking forward to this holiday. All I want to do is drink chilled Kingfisher %26amp; eat King Prawn/Fish Curry whilst watching a beach sunset.

Unless you get medical treatment and have investigations its pretty much impossible to tell where food poisoning originated, it can take up to 48 hours to manifest depending on what the bug is so i would take that with a pinch of salt anyway unless the persons involved ate only at the hotel and even then, what some people call food poisoning is probably on a bit of holiday tummy. It is a lovely hotel, the staff are very friendly and you will want for nothing there. A lot of the rooms are actually privately owned, hence the locked kitchen.

look this is not the best hotel i%26#39;ve stayed in, but its OK ish. the room boys clean the room every day and do a good job.

the hotel is a bit drab, for want of a better discription.

they have some very good theme nights though, and are worth going to.

i have only been there once, but have booked to go there next jan, so it can%26#39;t be that bad can it????

the one thing i have to say though, is, they have difficulty in deciding how much to charge for air conditioning. this is something you will have to barter for, if you want it!!!

the room boys use your possesions to make artistic things on your bed each day. if there is\ some thing you do not want creased or abused in any way, put it away in a\ cupboard, and they won%26#39;t touch it!!!

hope this puts your mind at rest. BOB

Thanks Bob .... I%26#39;m sure it%26#39;ll be fine.

The majority favour the Osborne .... it%26#39;s cheap, it%26#39;s in a excellent location and it does what it says on the tin.

6 weeks %26amp; counting!!

First time poster here..lets see if it works!

I just got back from Goa, staying at the Osborne Phase 2 only last week. So I can give a very up to date report.

First impressions were pretty good - the staff are friendly and attentive, everywhere seemed well maintained, and not overcrowded either.

We did have a few minor grumbles.

The phone in the room was totally knackered, and despite raising with reception this never got fixed.

I%26#39;m pretty sure I got a bad stomach eating a seafood cocktail in the restaurant.

My wife, who knows a thing or two (don%26#39;t they all?) said I shouldn%26#39;t have ordered it, and when it was served luke warm definitely advised against eating. On reflection she was right.

I have to say, though, that no one else in my party, including two small children, had any problems at all.

We certainly had no issue with room cleanliness or theft. Reception were helpful and most issues were sorted out.

It is a basic hotel, and you pay for what you get. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and we have no hesitation going back to the Osborne later in the year.
