Kerala in March and April

We are planning to arrive in Cochin in middle of March to spend a month in Kerala. We know its going to be very hot and would like to find a driver to make travel a little easier. Can anyone recommend a good driver in kerala. Maybe in Trivandrum, Varkala somewhere south - as we plan to get a train south and work our way up to kochin. After this it would be great to have a decent driver to show us the sights between there and Goa. Is this possible to do, or do we need to find a driver in each town. Can anyone advise me on this and maybe an approximate price we would be expecting to pay for couple of weeks. thank you

Also do we need to reserve hotels - guesthouses before we get there, or can we leave this more flexible. i am not sure if this will be peak season or not?

It should be off peak. I suspect getting someone who is familiar with most of the sights and sounds from Cochin to Goa may not be easy-the distance is upwards of 600 kms-maybe more. It may be better to consider doing each state as a separate segment-Kerala, Karnataka and Goa, with different drivers for each segment. However it is possible that you may get lucky and find a single driver. Try starting early in the morning to beat the heat.

thank you for your advise that is most helpful. i think now we will fly to trivandrum and work our way up...see if we can get a good driver..any idea of expected price per day or is it charged by the kilometres.
