Best wildlife

We are planning on taking our wildlife-crazy kids to India this June. Can anyone recommend a great destination?

We are interested in something special and wish to avoid the tourist mainstream (i.e., five landrovers parked around the same sleeping tiger, etc.).

Thanks!

Best wildlife

why dont you o to bandhavegarh and then the ranthambore forests.

another option is to go to nam dhapa in the north

have fun

Best wildlife

You%26#39;ve probably read up about Indian wildlife - or at least maybe your kids have...but the first thing to note is that June is summer-time. There will be no tourists, because it hot enough to bake scones inside the car. It is the best time for tiger-spotting though, in the dry decidous forests of Ranthambore.

In the south, in the dense forests of Nagarhole, the elephants and gaur flock to the Kabini riverbed, and you will definitely see them.

you may go to suderbans wild life sanctuary in kolkata.but you have to take the permit from the ministry of forest office at writers building (dalhousie).

Hi

Heading down south after mid-june can be a bit unfortunate at time due to unpredictable monsoon...n since u r travelling with a couple of eager kids....your best option would be start in Rajasthan - Ranthambore....in june it isn%26#39;t crowded at all...most vegetation browned and died out due to heat and lack of water...excellent visibility....and due to dried out natural water holes(except some lakes)...most animals n tigers are easily spotted at man-made water holes...after this u may proceed to Sariska(Rajasthan), most ppl might not advice this to you but lemme tell u why its gud bcuz due to absence of tigers...leopards and other predators are flourishing...and its a lot greener tan ranthambore...plus its a lot quiter than most places..the only thing to look out for is that don%26#39;t land up in sariska on a tuesday or a saturday...as its free on these days due to the fact that there is an old temple inside and scores of ppl throng the park....

moving on...there are two very good parks in uttranchal...Rajaji national park (just for wild elephants) and Jim Corbett national park (the best by all means if u wanna see a real forest and all animals)

Further there are two very gud parks in MP(Madhya Pradesh) as well...Kanha and Bandhavgarh parks...

There is one in Assam called Kaziranga...but that again is dicy due to monsoon threat..

Sunderbans is a real mystery...but with kids its like going into rough weathers without any protection.

Have a blast in India!

By far the best tiger park in India is Corbett. Over 165 Tigers. It is pristine as God made it. I go to Corbett as often as my time allows, thats lots. Corbett is the one for you. If you wish to get up to date prices of rooms, safari%26#39;s etc. I always use the services of Ramesh, and Mohan. You can contact Mohan, or Ramesh at the following Numbers +919758613308, or +919719232867.The office number is +915947284265

Oh ! The email address for Mohan , or Ramesh is ramesh_naturlist@yahoo.com

A lot of wildlife sanctuaries are closed for the monsoon months of June to September so its better to check before you make your bookings. In the monsoons when the foliage is dense, it is difficult to spot animals as they do not need to venture out of the core area for water.

I personally love the Periyar Tiger Sanctuary at Thekkady, Kerala periyartigerreserve.org but the monsoons start in June so sightings will not be as much as they would have been in May - a fantastic month for wildlife spotting. You will nonetheless spot elephants, Giant malabar squirrels and assorted deer for sure as well as lion tailed macaques and nilgiri langurs. You may find useful information at:

http://www.sanctuaryasia.com/

Every state in India has its own forest department. On the website of these forest departments you will find all the details of the sanctuaries or national parks in that state. If you do a google search on ';forest department'; pages from India, you will get most of these states websites, but as I said earlier, please check whether they are open to the public during the monsoons. Good luck and enjoy your holiday.

I totally agree with MOMSALLY !

Corbett NP is by far the best. Totally natural, and non of the circus of the other Tiger parks. It has not only Tigers, but lots of Elephants, Leopards, both types of Crocodile, Well...actually it has everything that the others have, but all together in one place, all be it a very big place. For example,Ranthambore has Tigers, but no Elephants, and so on. Corbett has it all. The Birdlife at Corbett is fantastic,as good as it gets.

The journey to Corbett is simple too. Fly to Delhi, one train later and you are there (Ranikhet Express, overnight sleeper, and very nice it is too)in Ramnagar.A short taxi ride of 10 mins will put you in the village of Dhikuli, which is in the ';Buffer zone'; of Corbett. Here you will find the best accomodation.

June could be a problem though,as mentioned previously, the monsoon closes everything down.Best to go between Nov-May

AS for the Suyal Brothers ! I dont know Mohan so well, only that he is a lovely fella, and I have heard only good things about him. Ramesh I do know very well, he is Mohans older brother and is a nugget of pure gold,I would trust him with my life. In fact,I do so time, and time again ! We use this guy everytime we go to Corbett,If you did%26#39;nt fancy the train journey, he could arrange a pick up in Delhi to transfer you and your family. He would be your guide, and would personally take care of your safety and well being. He can arrange all your travel, safari%26#39;s, accommodation, tours, the lot.Very reasonably priced as well. And he speaks pretty good English, well they both do for that matter.

This would be my reccommendation for an Indian wildlife trip. If you wish to ask any other questions about this posting please feel free to contact me.

Corbett is a wholesome forest experience and a real treat if someone is interested in not just tigers but in all aspects of flora and fauna...the only sad part is that it is perhaps the only park in India for which both summers and winters is peak times(winters by default because of tourist season and summers because it is very close to a a hill station)

The number of days u wish to stay in India and ur preferences of wildlife might help other contributors to guide u in right direction.

Generally speaking if u r here for a good amount of time then the poster ';unleashed'; above has more or summed it up quite comprehensively.

Cheers

Isn%26#39;t Corbett closed in June?
