Just came across this article on the web and wanted to get people%26#39;s thoughts:

India police accused of Goa cover up

This is absolutly awful news to read. I cant beleive the way it has been handled although not surprising the police are very corrupt in India and Goa is no exception. Also they do not want to damage tourism so not many of the stories make it to other countries. This is avery distressing story to hear about and people really must envisage the dangers of trusting locals and travelling around late in the evening without telling anybody of their whereabouts. Everyone thinks Goa is a very safe place and by large it is but it is not to say there is no crime at all. Let this be a warning - please be careful especially travelling alone or late at night - avoid beaches and unlit areas at night and always tell someone where you are going - try not to go out alone at night if this cannot be helped keep your wits about you and avoid drinking. Use a taxi driver you can trust (use one from good sources) and make sure everyone knows he is your driver.etc.. My sincere sympathy goes out to Scarlett%26#39;s family.

India police accused of Goa cover up

Yeah .......its time for us all to take our rose coloured glasses off in visiting Goa.

This will not put me off visiting but make me alot more vigilant.Goa is still a relativly safe place to visit compared to alot of other holiday destinations.

The fact of the matter is this murder has now brought the true reality of how things are handled by the police is appaulling.

Just wonder if all the facts will come out in the end.

As the saying goes the true colours of things in life only come out when things go wrong.........

The rediff.com story has the most details though so far.

I agree barking..........

common sense should always be used anywhere in the world.

Its awful that a young girl was murdered but ehat shocks me most is why she was allowed by her family to drink and do drugs. Surely that is high risk behaviour anywhere in the world??

I cant imagine any sensible parent going off leaving a young daughter alone to run around with people of a questionable reputation.

While I am not defending India or the Goan police or excusing anyone part of this horrible crime, surely hogh risk behaviour is the same in any part of the world? Shouldnt the people who have children try to take care of them??
