palolem accommodation

I am leaving for north Goa on the 16th but plan to spend a couple of nights in the south. I have stayed in Benaulim a few times and was considering going down to palolem. Does anyone have any suggestions of good accommodation and comments on what it is like there.

thanks

Steve

palolem accommodation

I am heading down south on the 18 th and have just called a bloke in this place,he says its quiet down there right now and in his words %26#39;totally charming weather%26#39; Rs 800 for room with shower/toilet Rs 600 for shared but I got the impression he can be bargained down if it%26#39;s that quiet, north end of the beach and near the river = mossies in my experience but I will check it out in a few days and do a post if I can get a decent internet connection and no power cuts.

I%26#39;ve stayed at the Ordo Sounsar, not a bad place. Very quiet, over the creek across a bamboo bridge. No excess of mozzies, as the creek is flowing and pretty salty at the mouth.

Bit of a walk to central Palolem is the only drawback, 15-20mins stroll along beach but plenty of watering holes in between.

One plus point is the wild monkeys at the back of the huts, which come for a nosey look around breakfast time.

You definately can bargain him down.

Many thanks for that info Smoking, handy to know its so far from the rest of the action but I have read elsewhere here that means its a quiet place to stay,I also hear great things about the food there as well, think I will give it a whirl for a couple of nights.

The food is very good, especially the Fish Cakes. And it is very peaceful. Don%26#39;t think there was any other huts operating that side of the creek.

If you opt for a hut without en-suite, then the shower and WC amenity block are kept very clean and are in good condition.

I went for 2 nights and ended up staying for 2 weeks, this place is really peaceful and a perfect way to unwind,as the above post says the food there is really amongst the best in Palolem. The 15-20 min walk to the main street is Ok if you need to go that far but there is good internet access just behind the %26#39;Banyan Tree%26#39; which also does good food( tandoori kingfish was spectacular ) ,also the swimming at that end of the beach is just about perfect. From what I saw the place is also really kiddie friendly ,the charming staff spent hours running around and entertaining children even despite significant language barriers all in all a great place to go.

Palolem is quite a nice place but dont know how busy it has got now.

If you go there then I can recommend Cafe Del Mar,they have lovely Air conditioned huts with a very good restaurant.

Another place i would highly recommend is Cola Beach ,you can spend a night in one of the tents. Its Paradise....

Glad you enjoyed it Charly. Did you manage to cut a deal for the longer stay.

No ,this place was full every night and a constant stream of people turned every day up only to be disappointed because there were no empty rooms, which is a testament to its reputation as to get there as you know you have to pass half the places on the beach which was by and large pretty quiet so other places were touting for business at good value rates.

Nearly every one there during my stay came for one or two nights and ended up staying much longer and the generosity, warmth and sense of fun of our hosts more than made up for any minor savings we may have made by attempting to beat then down in price.I loved it so much I am going to India again on Monday and plan to spend at least another week there !

Plenty of long stayers when we were there. But that was last Easter near end of season, so it wasn%26#39;t full and managed to get 6 friends in, and they got a bit of a deal.

Though like you say its a nice place so why haggle to save a quid or so.

Off to Cavelossim next Friday, may go down for a night again, depends on humidity!!!!

Getting to old and like my mod-cons to much, so one night is enough for me now.
