Donna Sa Maria, Tamborim

I have read some negative comments on Trip Advisor about this small family hotel near Cavelossim.

Not so much for the hotel but about the apparent moodiness of the owner Serrafino and tales of him locking guests out if they go elsewhere for supper and them having to clamber over walls.

I have just been for a week%26#39;s break as part of a world tour and thought it was worth putting the other side as I had a universally positive experience both of the place and the owners.

The hotel is a 1* which means that the rooms are basic (fans rather than A/C which could be a problem for some in Summer) but they are scrupulously clean and towels etc are changed every day.

The hotel itself is lovely and the pool is well maintained and a real haven.

All the staff are incredibly friendly and willing to help with anything and, while the drinks and meals are more expensive than local restaurants, they food is good and they are still reasonably priced.

A short taxi ride or 20 min walk will take you to Cavelossim and 10 mins the other way will take you right onto the beach with all its beach shacks for lunch.

As for being locked out, I had supper with a lot of people who were staying at the hotel ( many of whom were on return visits) at local restaurants ( usually the lovely CASMY on the way to the beach) and, although the doors were locked for security on our return, walking around to the side door and saying the magic words ';please can we come in?'; to the security guard did the trick without any of us having to climb up a wall.

South Goa is very peaceful compared to the Northern resorts of Calangute etc and not the place if you want clubs and nightlife. But, if like me, you want real peace and quiet this is a great area and a really lovely hotel

I agree completely and have said the same on another part of the forum. We went in February and had no negative experiences at all. The staff, food, pool, trips, bar, and location were all great. Even the basic rooms were acceptable - clean with decent views. The owner, Serafino, was absolutely fine. No lock-outs or taxis being sent away. As you say there are two sides to every story. Despite the negative reviews, we went ahead with an open mind and a courteous and considerate attitude and had a top ten holiday.
