leela hotel! info re:rooms,lagoon suites??

Hello!

My boyfriend and I are off to Goa in 2 weeks and wondered if anyone knew the Leela? We are in a lagoon suite..mixed reports.. so if anyone knows a room to avoid or a room to request , I would be hugely grateful!

Also - is Mobor beach nice?

We stayed at the Radisson white sands on Varca beach a few years ago and absolutely adored it- the space and the wild sea...is Mobor similar?

Also- we booked extra leg room on first choice but they have said we may not be sitting together- we may be across an aisle...is there any way to ensure sitting together- I really don%26#39;t fancy being leaned and drooled on by a stranger for ten hours...!

Many many thanks..

Sorcha.

Lagoon suites are brilliant, if a bit OTT ( do we REALLY need a bathroom and a TV each? ). We were in room 263 in 2006 but I suspect all are great. The cleaning staff sometimes need a reminder to do the job properly but mostly things are fine. If you thought the Rad was good, boy are you in for a treat. Enjoy!

Once on the plane just ask if someone would mind swapping, many don`t.

Thanks Gibson- great to hear from someone who%26#39;s been there..yes in the Radisson- we noticed that the second week , our rooms were not cleaned to the same standard at all, but I think it was our fault as we didn%26#39;t realise we should tip them during the holiday and not leave it til the end like we did!

But nothing as petty as that could spoil my holiday- everyone we met who worked in the hotel was just so friendly and polite.

Thanks for the sdvice!

We returned a week ago (our 11th stay) and posted a report on Trip Advisor. We aways have a lagoon suite on the upper floor and have never had a complaint about cleanliness. The maids and room service boys who come in at night for turndown are brilliant and it does not go amiss to tip them during your stay rather than leave it to the end. Premier rooms are new this year but have no balconies as these have been converted into small lounge areas. Lagoon suites were last refurbished by Four Seasons about 10 years ago when they converted single pavillion rooms into suites which is why they have 2 bathrooms and 2 TV%26#39;s - so spacious and compared to what you would pay for this type of accommodation elsewhere are a ';bargain'; - some of them however are in need of updating now.

Just to be more specific regarding the cleaning issue; one of the bathrooms became heavily infested with small black flies ( fleas? ). We reported this to housekeeping early one morning and lo and behold....they were still there later that afternoon!

Several hundred of the blighters! Anyway, a more assertive conversation with the manager produced the required result by early evening and that was the last we saw of the things. Sometimes you have to cast off the ';British reserve';. Otherwise, a fabulous place to be.

Thanks very much kay!

much appreciated,,only ten more days to go!!

can%26#39;t wait!

U are in for a treat....lagoon suites are briliant...Do tip in the beginning of your holiday and the see the difference in service...a few rupees can do wonders in the level of service ....

Tip at start of holiday? I think not. Tipping is a recognition of good service, so when we get it then we`ll do it.A 5 star deluxe hotel shouldn`t need basic services to be pre-paid anyway. Even in the USA tips are given AFTER service is received.

Gibson and niceandnotty- thanks so much for the info-

My instinct would be to tip having already received the good service and not before but as I said- perhaps we should have realised not to wait until our last day- to tip..(at the Radisson)!

Just a thought- Do you tip at the beach shacks, taxis etc and is it 10% approx?

I%26#39;m always highly aware that a paltry tip from me -the tourist can make a huge difference in the Goan%26#39;s income that day- but wondered what sort of tips we%26#39;re talking about- I wouldn%26#39;t want to insult anyone by being stingy through ignorance..

many thanks..Sorcha

Put it this way. We get a much lower fare quote if we walk down from Leela to Holiday inn first. I.E. the drivers add on a premium if they know you are staying at the Leela. Ask around, and particularly your tour rep, if you are on a package, what the rates SHOULD be. We always give godd tips in shacks if the food is good and 10% is fine. However, particularly good service ( one guy even loaned me a pair of sandals when mine disintegrated ) will get a bonus, as will good sunbed service. You`ll work it out.

Thanks Gibson for the advice..as you say we%26#39;ll work it out!
