I enquired about having dinner at lake palace and was told that the restaurants are only open to residents of the hotel. sad :(

Not really. For one the main restaurant in the hotel has no view of the City Palace. The coffee shop has an oblique view. The rooftop restaurant will be too cold in the winter tourist season anyway. The Sunset Terrace at Fatehprakash compensates nicely any day and there are no strings attached!! Next time youre in Udaipur, Glukos, the treat is on me at the Sunset Terrace!!
