Budget accommodation in Mumbai

Hiya, I鈥檓 going to Mumbai for a week in February, it is my first time in India and I鈥檓 beside myself with excitement and terror鈥?.

I have a fear of Cockroaches!

My brother (whom I鈥檓 travelling with and has visited India [Delhi] before), says we could get accommodation for 拢10 per night.

Is he right or is he mad?

At that price, cockroaches will be for free and with not restrictions on number. I think you should consider a budget of at least 25 pounds for it be be half decent.

hahhaaa, i liked the reply from mumbai resident, how on earth cld yr bro sugggest accomodtaion for 10UKP in bombay, definately u will hv a million cockrages for company.

If you are a hardcore traveller and been to india before you could find a lot of budget hotels. I suggests looking for a place costing 20-25 拢

Salvation Army Red Shield Hotel (+91 022 2284-1824), 30 Mereweather Rd, behind the Taj, has rooms for Rs 700/1000 (meals included) and dorm beds for Rs 150 (with meals Rs 160)

Mumbai hotels are very expensive. Try indiahotelreview.com

You will get tacky accommodation for around Rs 500 per night in the guest houses near VT [CST]. Reasonably priced, by Bombay standards, near Colaba Causeway is around Rs2000 +++.

I hope you find something on the websites. Enjoy your holiday. BTW you can always buy an insect spray, and spray the room to get rid of the potential roaches.

Mandy - Try the YMCA in Colaba. It is clean and cockroach free. Well - not entirely - but almost :)

Yep! I thought as much.

I have done several searches on %26#39;budget accommodation%26#39; and of course I didn鈥檛 find anything for 拢10pn.

Thank you all so very much for your help. I will check out your suggestions.

Safe travels to you all.

We just got back from a Rs.2000 (which is roughly 25 British pounds)a night hotel in Mumbai on some misadvice , and let me tell you the cockroaches will be your best friends.

Traveling in India is hard enough for the well seasoned traveler. Be honest with yourself- if you%26#39;re a first time tourist there, a cheap hotel in Mumbai is not for you- it will spoil your entire experience. Spend the extra money on a place that is at least Rs.5000 (roughly 62 pounds)/night.

There is a VAST difference between the quality of hotels in India as there is no real regulation mechanism. Star rating is not closely followed, so price is your best indicator. This is not one area where you want to scrimp, esp, in Mumbai.

There are a couple of places that are ok at the lower price end - the YMCA, Residency Fort and Chateau Windsor. I think Sea Green and Sea Green South aren%26#39;t too bad either.

Other than those, I%26#39;d suggest hotels at the $100-200 range. Gordon House, Ascot, Suba Palace, West End, are reasonable places to stay at.
