Goa in August?

Can%26#39;t wait to get back to Goa, and the school summer holiday is probably the next opportunity to get away.

Obviously it is rainy season, but I%26#39;ve heard mixed reports on what the situation is actually like, even locals can%26#39;t agree - some say it is continuously rainy and all the roads are blocked, while others say it should be fine, there will still be some sunshine, though a bit quiet.

I%26#39;d like some opinions from people who either live there or have been in August, rather than hearsay.

Goa in August?

August for me is a great time to come, yeah it%26#39;s still raining, when it rains it rains hard and the last 3 years have been pretty mixed, sometimes there%26#39;s a big sharp blast of rain, others it goes on for a bit. Generally though August, especially later August is when the gaps in the rain become longer and the sun dries the rain up quicker. Roads are usally OK, unless they%26#39;re in a real dip. The slums last year had a nice river running thrugh them (they were pretty the lowest point, but the roads (which are normally bult up a bit are fine.

Goa is beautiful and if you%26#39;re not looking for a beach holiday there%26#39;s stil so much colour and vibrance about the place..

Hope that helps

Goa in August?

Poipleshadow,

Thanks for the info - Sounds OK.

Any more out there?

Earliest i have been was the end of September, it did rain, only occasionally but it was very heavy when it did, sea was pretty rough, it was several years ago so was much quieter then anyway, we were on the first flight out for the season and only a few hotels were open, no beach shacks up. Went to the waterfalls that year and the road was only just passable and pretty scary. As i say it was a few years ago and things may have changed regarding when the hotels and shacks are running.

I go out on my pushbike most days all thru monsoon and only occasionally get wet, I know where to take shelter or pop into a bar for half an hour and rain stops, and August is more showers than rain and plenty of hazey sunshine, tends to rain more late evening and when you sleep mornings I get out on bike so nothing stops me from getting around and the greenery and flowers are in full bloom and quiter roads especially the beach belt, just enjoy there is something for everyone and still quite a few restaurants that stay open all season with reduced monsoon prices.
